Look at how prepared a priest must be to come to God and who was and was not allowed to enter the tabernacle. I am very excited that we can not go behind the current and as the writer of Hebrews says “approach the throne of God boldly”.

Jesus was announcing the end of the shadow established in the OT. The Temple in Jerusalem would be replaced by one “not built by human hands”.

The mission of the Messiah was to build the Temple of God – the one He had promised to build in 2 Sam, Zech, Isaiah, Jeremiah, etc.

What was the Temple that Jesus, our Messiah built? Obviously, when Jesus arrived on the scene there already was a Temple made of stone. He prophesied that a new Temple would be built. The first cornerstone was the temple of His Body, the rest of the stone are living stones (2 Peter) and those are the followers of Christ. We are the new Temple of God.

The Temple, the Jewish Priesthood, the blood sacrifice, even the chosen people themselves — all are mere shadows of what was to come. Jesus came to announce the end of the old covenant (because it was being fulfilled) and the beginning of the new covenant.

We are His Temple, His Body, His Priesthood.
