@Hutch, thanks brother, I've been thinking about this as well.

@Chas, so well put, praise the Lord

I've been thinking about your question Lionel all afternoon. Humility came to mind (Colossians 3:12). I am similar to you because I am strong with my theological bents. I was like a small Reformed Baptist church, that's it. I was also thinking of a house church as well, I love the way the 1st century did things you know, but with my wife she was not convinced of these(Romans 14:5). I prayed the Lord's will be done and humility was given to me. I was lead to passages like Ephesians 5:25, 1 Peter 3:7-8) and I asked, can I lay down these things for my wife to be edified by a congregation that meets in a building. Doing this my wife has grown tremendously, and me as well. How? Let's just say my wife as shown evidence of Galatians 5:22-23. I encourage you to humility bro. Yes sound doctrine and theology is important and if the church is sound on essentials, what's wrong with humbling ourselves? Let me tell you bro, I've learned that expository preaching is not the way, and amazingly that is how the Word is preached. God taught me humility of Christ is the way I need to follow (Philippians 2:4). Hope that encourages you brother. God bless

Thank You Karsten for this devotional. I've been pondering the themes contained within your devotional throughout the day.

I especially liked this:

When life throws a curve ball at you or a left hook, follow Christ. Follow God by remembering His Word, praying and keeping your mind sober of things of this world (1 Peter 1:13). When Sarah died, Abraham had to have been shaken. The text says he came and wept for her (Genesis 23:2). He experienced a real life changing event in the death of his wife. I think what would I do if my wife died (Lord help me!!!!) Abraham followed God, we see that as he works out to find a burial place for his wife, and then in Chapter 24 get’s back to following the Lord’s promise from Genesis 12:2. He sends his servant to search for Isaac a wife. When there seems life has no direction, no way to turn, and even no way coming out: FOLLOW CHRIST. God bless and think on these words of scripture:

hope you dont mind if i kibbitz? the processional part of this corinthians quote reminds me of psalms 68:18. the fragrance portion, and any reference to the sweet fragrance in the Lord's nose, remind me of something else. it reminds me of the woman in bethany at the house of simon the leper from mark 14. she anoints the Savior's head with extremely expensive oil of pure nard. a fragrance not unlike lavender. he carried that smell with him to the upper room, to the garden, to the home of the high priest, and to the cross. the entire day of passion is marked (no pun intended) by this scent. the death of Christ is saturated with this fragrance. i think YHVH through out his history of relations with men, had this fragrance in his nostrils, knowing that this smell of sacrifice, His sacrifice, was the smell that would rejoin man to His presence. of course i could be wrong.

Karsten, man... I am so glad you are writing with us. Let me ask something man. I have been struggling with this church thing, how would you encourage me to follow Christ in the midst of my struggles?

Also check out 2 Corinthians 2:14-17 and let me know what you think about that, especially the "triumphal purcession"
